Possible outages and power surges in Chicagoland area due to storms.
With recent storms in the area we have recieved a surge of calls with loss of internet service.
While most outlets and surge protectors protect the power. Surges are quite commone over your network as well. A surge can cause your modem to go down or even destroy the network card.
A simple way to see if there is any damage to the network cards in your home or bussiness is to unplug the network cord from the back of your PC. If there is a solid yellow light then your network card is back. Another easy way to tell is if your computer says that the network cable is disconnected even if it is plugged in.
As for your DSL or Cable even if your internet provider tests the modem and it is working the network port on this device can also go bad. An easy way to test is to plug it into your router or computer and see if the lights light up or it is being detected as connected.
